It was a bitter Scottish winter afternoon in East Kilbride, but the Dundee squad managed to travel to Lanarkshire, and everyone present were warmed by some great skilful and fast moving action at the John Wright Centre.
First up were the Under 12s, an Eagles team that actually only included two aged players took on the Ducks, including national and international players. The ducks ran out easy winners with a convincing 13-0 score line. The young Eagles side battled hard but couldn’t match the strength of the Ducks. MOM Anothai Craig.
The next match was the Under 16s, and what a fast moving encounter this was, the play went back and forth at break neck speed and Adam Thompson, a player who has really caught the eye this year, managed to bag 4 of the Eagles goals, with Scott Gibb, Craig Frame and MOM Callum Jarvie all getting one goal apiece as the Eagles lost out by 10-7 to the Dundee side.
The under 10s took to the pad next, a side including some of the younger Eagles faced up to the Dundee 10’s. The Dundee side managed to take an early lead and the EK side found it hard to get past Dundee net minder Griffen. A big effort was put in by the 10s, and Aiden Paterson managed a hat trick of goals in return to nine by the ducks. MOM Oden Barber.
Perhaps the closest and best game of the day was the clash of the Under 14s, again the speed and skill on show was breath taking, and if anyone who had never seen a roller hockey match managed to see this one they would have been hooked. The play went back and forth with the Eagles always trying to get back on level terms, and they managed this till late in the game when the Ducks managed to pull away to an 8-4 win. Adam Thompson and MOM Kobe Barber on the score sheet for the Eagles.
On a winter’s day, the games provided some good viewing and a great advert for the sport, thanks to all involved.
