It was a white winters morning when we all left Lanarkshire, for the trip to St. Andrews, but the “auld grey toon” looked great in the winter sunshine, as we arrived for the latest set of matches.
First into a action were the Under 12s, and it was a good lively game with both sides trying to get on top, with scores of 2-2 at the end of the first and 4-4 at the end of the second, there wasn’t a lot between the two sides.
Three goals early in the third period, saw the Scorpions build up a lead, that would prove uncatchable for the young Eagles side, the score ended up 8-6 to Scorpions with the Eagles scorers Paterson (3) O Barber and MOM Tom Morgenthaler with 2 goals.
Next up were the Under 16s, and this was a very fast contest with both teams playing at speed and showing some amazing skill levels. The scorpions controlled this game from start to finish, and ran out 17-2 winners, with consolation goals from Adam Thompson and Kobe Barber for the Eagles. MOM Georgie Jolliffe.
It was now the turn of the Under 10s, and with the Scorpions without their usual net minder, it was always going to be difficult against an Eagles line up. Which included 4 of their 5 Scotland internationals at this age group. But the Scorpions battled well, and kept the score to a creditable 9-0 for the Eagles.
The goals were shared out throughout the Eagles side, with the highlight being a goal for young Tristan Gentles – Luke Anderson with 5, and a goal apiece for Tristan Gentles, Anothai Craig, Luca DeSimone and Oden Barber. MOM Luke Anderson.
The most keenly fought and tightest game came last, as the Under 14s fought out a real nail biter, with the scores being tight all through the game until, with only 20 secs to go, the Eagles went 4-3 up, and with that, they must have thought they won the game, but with only 5 secs remaining the Scorpions made it 4-4. A great game played out by two teams who gave their all, a credit to the teams, and a credit to the sport. All of the Under 14 Eagles goals were scored by Adam Thompson. MOM Andrew Cochrane.
All in all another enjoyable day in St Andrews, and as always, a warm welcome and some great home baking to help us through.
